VW, Audi, SEAT, Skoda Cambelt Replacement

Why is it important to replace my cambelt?
The cambelt in your vehicle plays a vital role. It ensures that all moving engine components are synchronized and do not come into contact with one another. Should the belt snap or slip, it can cause severe engine damage.

What causes a cambelt to fail?
The belt deteriorates over time, even if you don’t drive many miles. Deterioration may be accelerated by contact with fluids such as engine oil and anti-freeze. Another common cause of failure is worn or seized tension rollers.

When should the cambelt be changed?
VW, Audi, SEAT and Skoda specify replacing the cambelt and tensioner between 60,000 and 80,000 miles or at 4 to 5 year intervals depending on the vehicles specification. Our Service Department will be happy to advise you of the correct interval according to your vehicle details.

Why is it recommended to replace the water pump when changing the cambelt?
The water pump is a component that is prone to unexpected failure. The usual cause is internal parts of the pump working loose, leading to overheating of the engine. It can be expensive to replace because in most engines it involves stripping down the cambelt assembly. The amount you pay to replace the water pump with the cambelt is a fraction of what it would cost to replace the pump separately at a later date.
